30-SECOND BRIEF
What it does—and when it fits
Azure Compute is the workflow router for bare Azure Virtual Machine and Virtual Machine Scale Set decisions. It classifies requests for SKU and image selection, pricing, quota, deployment, autoscale, orchestration mode, Capacity Reservation Groups, and Essential Machine Management, while sending application-platform deployments to Azure Prepare instead.
INSTALL BY AGENT
Choose your Agent
Paths come from official Agent docs or the universal installer behind skills.sh. Compatibility still follows this Skill's record.
.claude/skills/azure-compute/~/.claude/skills/azure-compute/Use project scope for team sharing and personal scope across repositories. The installer defaults to project scope; add -g for personal scope.
npx skills add microsoft/azure-skills --skill azure-compute --agent claude-codeClaude Code discovers custom Skill folders automatically at project or personal scope.

A practical workflow
Select VM capacity
Compare families, sizes, images, pricing, quota, and workload fit before provisioning.
Plan VM or VMSS deployment
Route bare-machine creation and scale-set design to the required specialized workflow.
Manage specialized capacity
Handle reservation-group and machine-management intents through their dedicated workflows.
THE TRADEOFFS
Advantages and tradeoffs
Notable strengths
- This profile is manually organized around the current upstream SKILL.md workflow.
- The capability boundary remains explicitly tied to microsoft/azure-skills.
- Core uses, limitations, and risks are separated for pre-install review.
Limitations
- It is for bare VM or VMSS infrastructure, not Docker services, web apps, APIs, or serverless application deployment.
- The top-level Skill routes to workflow documents; pricing, quota, images, and regional availability must be checked live.

BEFORE YOU USE IT
Risks to review before use
Costly, insecure, or unavailable compute
A wrong size, image, network, orchestration mode, or reservation choice can create cost, exposure, or capacity failure. Verify live quota and pricing, harden access, and review the exact provisioning plan.
Upstream instruction drift
Behavior can change with upstream updates. Record the commit used for important workflows and review updates before adoption.
SECURITY
What the permission profile means
- Declared access remains governed by the current upstream SKILL.md and runtime requests.
- Treat repository files, web content, and tool output as untrusted input.
- SkillSignal has not independently executed or security-audited this package; external skills.sh labels are not SkillSignal certification.
Not a security certification. External ratings are attributed references. SkillSignal has not independently executed or security-reviewed this Skill.
